Charity funding still available through Local Action Fund: how to apply

Charities and community groups have been “urged” to apply for match funding after it was revealed that hundreds of thousands of pounds is still available through the Local Action Fund.

The scheme – launched by the National Emergencies Trust (NET) with Crowdfunder – matches donations pound for pound up to £10,000.

According to the group, £747,000 is still available to support not-for-profits in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

With restrictions still impacting charities’ ability to fundraise, the NET is “urging” those who have not yet benefited from the Coronavirus Appeal to apply to the Local Action Fund.

To get started, registered charities and community organisations need to set up a fundraising campaign on Crowdfunder UK and raise funds from at least 25 unique supporters within four weeks of launching the appeal. The NET will then match donations pound for pound, up to a maximum £10,000.

Commenting on the report, Mhairi Sharp, NET CEO, said: “The Local Action Fund was launched to help small local projects to get back on their feet after the challenges of the pandemic, and remains as relevant as ever following the latest measures announced in December.

“We’ve decided to keep the Fund open so that those in need of a financial boost, either for new projects or to cover core costs, don’t miss out at this difficult time.”

The NET’s latest accounts show that more than 13,000 grants were awarded to meet the urgent needs of charities across the UK since March 2020.
