RMT Accountants supports Omnicom Media Group set up Newcastle office

August 16, 2023

RMT Accountants & Business Advisors has helped London-headquartered Omnicom Media Group UK execute plans to set up its first North East office.

The Newcastle opening will create 170 jobs over the next three years. The roles available will vary from entry level apprenticeships to more senior positions, including a new Managing Director.

OMG UK also intends to sign up to the North of Tyne Combined Authority’s Good Work Pledge. It is looking to form partnerships with the city’s universities and college groups to help nurture local talent and create new opportunities for graduates.

Headquartered in London, OMG UK’s investment in Newcastle follows the successful local launch of another Omnicom Group agency, Credera, in 2022, a project on which the RMT team also worked.

Michael Cantwell and Julie Cuthbertson worked with the Omnicom Media Group UK management team to develop and refine its Inward Investment Grant application and lead the application process.

RMT was introduced to Credera by Invest Newcastle, part of NewcastleGateshead Initiative (NGI). It has been working with OMG UK for several months on establishing a presence in the region as part of its drive to enhance Newcastle’s position as a leading UK tech hub.

Michael, head of corporate finance, said: “OMG UK’s recognition of everything that Newcastle and the North East has to offer them, and the substantial long-term investment they’re making here, is brilliant news for the region.

“It’s great for us to have helped the Invest Newcastle and North of Tyne Combined Authority teams complete another successful inward investment project and to be part of bringing such a well-regarded business to our home city.”

Talent and skills are at the heart of OMG UK’s decision to invest in Newcastle. The group recognise the expertise of the digital professionals living, working and studying in the city.

OMG is also committed to ensuring a representative and diverse workforce across its UK operations. Another office in Manchester strengthens its presence across the North of England and offers clients based outside of London a new hub to cater to their specific needs and growth strategies.

Dan Clays, CEO, Omnicom Media Group UK, said: “We have seen high growth as a business across media, content and commerce services, and the launch in Newcastle is a key part of our strategy to continue that momentum. The launch reflects a growing desire amongst our clients that we draw on talent from across the UK, and our own commitment to ensuring our talent is truly representative.

“The North-East and the city of Newcastle is an incredibly exciting place for us to access brilliant talent, and we look forward to creating career opportunities in media and marketing services in the months and years ahead.”

Elected Metro Mayor for the North of Tyne, Jamie Driscoll, said: “This is music to my ears. I’m pleased that we’ve been able to support OMG – creating 170 jobs, at all levels, for local residents. The North-East is where it’s all happening – a fantastic place to live and work.

“Last year, we were the number one region in the country for inward investment job creation. And companies like OMG get it. That’s why they’re getting in on the ground floor with us as we build an even better region, together.”

Newcastle City Council Cabinet Member for a Thriving City, Cllr Alex Hay, said: “OMG’s investment will provide a significant boost to Newcastle’s economy and further strengthens our position as an international hub for the digital and tech sector.

“The creation of 170 new jobs is fantastic news and OMG’s commitment to providing opportunities for residents at all levels will support our vision to build a more inclusive economy in Newcastle. We look forward to working with OMG to maximise the benefits of this investment for our local community.”

Dawn Dunn, Digital and Tech Sector Lead, Invest Newcastle, said: “OMG is a global business with a proven track record of innovation in the digital space.

“The group’s investment reinforces our position as a global destination for technology businesses and their commitment to nurturing local talent should help ensure we are equipping the next generation with the skills to drive the data driven revolution right here in Newcastle.”

OMG has a long-standing dedication to the development of its people and invests significantly in education and training through a range of programmes. This includes its “Omnicom University,” which provides training for current and future leaders.

Underpinning this commitment is the group’s “Responsibly Relentless: Equity For All” report on diversity, equality and inclusion, which aims to ensure a fair and equitable approach to recruitment and development across the talent pool is fulfilled.

OMG will begin recruiting for the Newcastle office in due course and is planning to be located in the centre of the city.
